November Employee of the Month

Laura Ponce

In 2013 Laura’s parents had to go back to Mexico because they lost their jobs here. In Mexico her father is a dental surgeon. In case you didn’t know, Laura is not related to the other Ponces that work(ed) here. While in Mexico Laura realized she couldn’t make it there financially, so she came back. Her neighbor when she lived in San Juan with her parents was Lupe Ruvalcaba’s family. (Lupe is the co-manager in the West Indies). They told Laura that Lupe was working at the Villas, so Laura decided to apply. Her first job was as a caregiver in the West Indies where she still is today. She has since done some work on call on the “AL side”. What you might not know is that Laura has an Associates Degree in Business from Saddleback College. She was planning on going on, but that’s when her parents went back to Mexico, and they are still there. Before working at the Villas Laura was a girl’s youth soccer coach with AYSO. She did that for about four years. She’d do it now, but she’s needed on the weekends here at the Villas. Hows that for dedication? Indeed, Laura loves helping others. She likes listening to the residents’ stories like where they come from. She especially loves helping out on the AL side. When interviewing Laura I noticed she laughs a lot. I asked her when her birthday is, and it’s in June. She’s a Gemini. So I mentioned that Gemini women often go into the medical field or politics. She said she would have gone into the medical field if it wasn’t so expensive. But then she told me that’s what she likes about the Villas as it’s kind of “medical” related with taking care of people. Laura told me that she loves to do woodworking. Ask her to show you a picture on her phone of the kitchen she did with her dad! Laura we honor you this month as an awesome, dedicated caregiver!
